Hubby got me an anniversary present early due to Cassie not being able to keep her mouth shut when he told her the secret of what he was going to get me. Another reason why she told me is that we recently switched from Verizon FIOS to Comcast digital. We had a very bad experience with Verizon ( actually many of them ) and with this Comcast promotion they got going on, we get home internet AND Wi-Fi internet for $49 a month! So of course I signed us up for that!

Once again, a mating pair of Red Tailed Hawks have built their nest on the fire escape overhang of a downtown Portland office building. This couple have been doing this for the past 5 years.

They now have three eggs, which is really cool considering they only usually have one or two, tops. This is live, streaming video. I go and check on them everyday and on our local news channel, Channel 8, they are the one's who set up the cam in conjunction with the Portland Audubon Society....

Chris Cornell Concert

Despite still being in the claws of a vicious cold, I dragged my poor body to a concert of Rock legend Chris Cornell (Ex-singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave) last Friday and was completely blown away by a) the man's friendliness and b) his INCREDIBLE voice! It's been said time and again that he's one of the best rock voices ever, and he proved it. Looky here:

Today was our annual family tradition of helping out local needy families for the holiday either through my church, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Washington County or my hubby and daugther's church, The United Church of Christ here in Forest Grove. Oregon Zoo Animals In The Snow

Someone from our local zoo posted this video of some of the animals enjoying the recent snows we've been having. Of course, this was like on day 1 or 2. The Zoo has since been closed due to HEAVY snowfall and since the Zoo is up in our West Hills, it's too icy and treacherous for most to get up there. Most of the roads in the West Hills, for that matter, are closed until further notice.

I am a HUGE JAVA JUNKIE, in case no one in here knew that about me. Nothing makes me happier in the morning than to have a killer cup o' Joe and either watch Sunrise Earth on HD TV, blast the stereo and dance around the house like a madwoman or whatever. But what about any of that which does not change is there HAS to be coffee in there, somewhere.

Our Family Trip on President's Day

Hubby and I decided to show Cassandra a place he and I knew well, but had not been to in AGES. It's called the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Preserve and it's outside of one of the towns that was hit pretty hard by the floods in early November here in Oregon. But we knew the meadows would be okay, since the Nehalem River runs a bit away from this area. And sure enough, the place looked fine and untouched by any such tragedy.

In kkurban's thread about the California bushfires, I mentioned how my brother-in-law's mother and his sister both lost their houses in a bushfire on Xmas Day, 2001. I didn't want to hijack kk's thread anymore than I already had, so here are some pics I took of what was left of my BIL's mother's house. I didn't take any pics of his sister's house, but the result was the same...everything was totally destroyed.
