Thanks for that, Deb. It's really good to read these snippets of people with positive things to say about Karl's performance, especially when some people were initially saying he was so wrong for the part because he looked nothing like Kelly, or didn't have blue eyes, or this or that.

Yeah, I really got the impression some fans were very set on who they wanted to play which character, and they weren't open to who was eventually cast and generally slagged Karl (and others) off. Some of the more recent comments by those doubters about Karl have seemed to be favourable since the media's special preview. I think all of those reviews I read commented on his fab performance.

Sounds to me like the writers knew what they were dealing with and will hold true to what they know of him. And hence he will not disappoint. I have to say I don't put a lot of emphasis on what writers have to say about a movie. I see it and make my own decisions just as we all do. Unless I'm wrong, it seems he's going to be one with a little more experience than most of the cast. Sure it's important what people think. This movie is going to have a huge audience, but...

Well, I am a die hard Trek fan. Have been for 30 years or so.

Now, to be honest when I heard Karl was going to be McCoy...I was like WHAT???

Karl Urban as McCoy would take some getting use too. I have not heard him speaking as McCoy yet. Seen him in uniform tho. Hehe I liked that.

I am sure there is a thread here that will show me Karl as McCoy. Maybe speaking as McCoy. Am I that lucky???

i agree, youngun. i know this much: during the pre-production cast read-throughs, the shit hammer came down and ryan was deemed far too young for the role of the father and he got the sack; this must be at least partially true because i heard from some of the crew who had been in pennsylvania where the exteriors were shot that rachel looked like a cradle-robbing perve next to ryan.

why pj and fran didn't then turn to karl to come to the rescue is beyond me, but like i said...

Yeah Leah, thanks for the info. on the Lovely Bones. But I think Peter made a HUGE mistake casting Mark Wahlberg. He is so WRONG for that part, it's not even funny! I wonder what happened to Ryan Gosling, the last I had heard before he decided on Wahlberg, he was supposed to play the father. Karl or Ryan would of been MUCH better looks and acting wise than Mark Wahlberg!

I just hope he doesn't ruin the movie for me, because I really liked that book. And yeah, PJ has a GREAT...

amen! i bet karl would love to get uglied up with some expertly applied make-up (tho i think hollywood's idea of an 'uglied up' karl was munder in 'ghost shit', which i find hilarious because munder is drop-dead shaggolicious, i like my men scruffy and unkempt and karl as munder...lord have mercy, don't even get me started), but making him 'average' might be quite hard! his height woud be a problem there, too, he must be well over 6 feet and towers over most...

Thanks for the insight on Lovely Bones, Leah! I'm surprised - Surely PJ could have just applied abit of makeup and made Karl less attractive. I would not mind in the slightest seeing Karl looking less than his best if it meant a great character role in a good movie. It kinda reminds me of an argument
