1. Ridley Scott- Just because I loved Blade Runner, too. Plus, he also did Alien, so he knows how to do other Sci-Fi, too. Other great movies he did that I think make him a good choice for Karl is Gladiator with Russell Crowe and Black Rain with Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia. Both of those are pretty intense, hard hitting movies in their own right. He could get one hell of a meaty performance out of Karl, for sure!
2. Tim Burton- Because Tim is so good with writing character driven Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies and directing them. Tim's world is dark and disturbing yet hauntingly beautiful at the same time. I think he could get Karl to be a great chameleon like actor like he has done so well with another actor I love, Johnny Depp. I'd like to see Karl in something a bit off the beaten track and off in another world of Tim's making.
3. Woody Allen- To see Karl in another good romantic comedy. Who better to direct Karl in something like that than Woody. He writes so many good one's and it's been so long since I've seen Karl in anything like that. Not since The Price of Milk. Karl needs a good, well written, adult romantic comedy to do, not some of this shit Hollywood keeps pumping out that are just brain dead on arrival and are annoying! I think it'd be a good change in between the Star Trek films for Karl and with Woody at the helm, you know he's going to be working with some great actors, too.
4. Sam Mendes- The man is so good with getting down to the nitty gritty of people and relationships. From American Beauty to Road To Perdition and Revolutionary Road, he lets you see the seeming underbelly of people and what makes them tick, but he does it in a way as to make you not feel like you are intruding, but more like a fly on the wall. He's directed some of the most incredibly written drama stories and I think this would also be a good choice because I think he could get an Oscar winning performance out of Karl, depending on the script. I'd love to see Karl in an Oscar worthy performance, wouldn't you?
5. Guillermo Del Toro- The man behind the beautiful and tragic Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy 1 & 2, and is currently working on the Hobbit under Peter Jackson's tutelage. Guillermo has a good eye to details and he is also a well-known Sci-Fi/Fantasy freak. If he and Karl got to working on a really good Sci-Fi project together, you can bet your ass Karl will be just as strong of a character as Eomer was for LOTR. Plus, I would love to be privy to all of their Sci-Fi geek moments in a behind the scenes thing once the movie they made came to DVD. That would be priceless! It doesn't hurt that Guillermo is a Mexican. Being half Mexican myself, it would give me a HUGE sense of pride to have Karl directed by a Mexican!
